Jacobson at Sidewalk
Cafe at 11pm. The Bowman
Twins'll be playing at 10pm.
Check out the performances
page - Lots of new dates!
Last Friday at Pianos was a lot of fun, thanks to the Heavyweights
for having me. That Casey
Shea had all the ladies swooning with his crooning. This Friday
should be fun as well and I'm told there will be more than a couple
of interesting guest musicians to spice it up.
Also coming up is Cheryl Engelhardt's
big show featuring a rare four-piece horn section at NYC's premiere
international music venue, Satalla, and the following Saturday I'll
be back with Fro at Balanza
Bar in Brooklyn for a Halloween party.
And I've already begun spreading the word about the Van
Davis and KiF
double bill at the new bar Mo Pitkins on the Lower East Side.
Van Davis had a good time playing at Don Hill's Wednesday.
Can't wait for another 55 Bar
show on October 5th, where the shows get better and better. And
Ted Baker will be back with us on keys.
L.A.: 'twas excellent and very refreshing. Back to work tomorrow.
The New Absolutes' first show last night at Sin-e was great. I came
across a recording from a rehearsal this afternoon and uploaded
it.
It's about that time. They're coming. The New Absolutes.
They're a rockin' band with my old pal Danny
Carlton on guitar, Caitlin Hennessey on vocals, and Paul
Stivitts on drums. Our first gig's on Wednesday, Sept. 7th at
Sin-e' at 10:30pm. More details
on the Performances page.
Lowry
will also be performing at Sin-E' this week. (Wednesday, August
24th - The Bowmans at 8pm, Lowry at 9pm.)
Anthony Garcia will be in from Texas to play keys on the gig.
This Sunday, August 7th, Mike Calabrese and I will be performing
with Cheryl Engelhardt at
the Bitter End from 7:30 to 8:15pm. Stop on by or catch it via webcam
at www.bitterend.com if you
like. Then I'll be there again with Kim
Loren on the Wednesday the 10th at 9:30pm. Danilo
Perez performs earlier that night at 7pm in Madison
Square Park. I'm psyched.
Check out the Performances
page for details about tonight's Van
Davis show at the Knitting
Factory Tap Bar!
Don Hill's was real fun last night. We appreciate your support
and look forward to more gigs in the near future. Check out www.SukeCerulo.com
for up-to-date info.
Thanks to all who attended the last Van Davis show at the
55 Bar. The night was a success and provided us with inspiration
as we move towards the big CD Release Party on July 23rd at the
Knitting Factory. Check out the Performances
page for more details!
Please check out updates on the Performances
page!
Timefly will be performing at 11pm this Sunday, June 12 at Sidewalk
Cafe!
Van Davis will be at 55 Bar
on June 23rd and the Knitting
Factory on July 23rd (CD release party with Oz
Noy and Alex
Skolnick).
April 21-23, 2005, Van Davis
will be performing in Janine McGuire's new theatrical production,
"The Band Behind The Curtain". More details can be found
on the Van Davis website.
There's a cool Cheryl Engelhardt
show coming up on May 11th at the Boston Commons Hotel, we're looking
forward to playing again with our favorite drummer Mike Calabrese
who's attending the New England Conservatory.
On May 12th I'll be performing at Kenny's
Castaways with violinist/mandolinist Joe
Deninzon.
I'm looking forward to the weekend of May 28-31 when
I'll be travelling to Texas to record with my old buddies Danny
Sanchez and Anthony Garcia from Sangre. There are a few songs we
love playing that simply must be waxed.
Stay tuned for details about another Van Davis show
in June at the 55 Bar, and a
Van Davis CD release party at the Knitting
Factory in July featuring Alex Scolnick, and Oz
Noy.
The Van Davis show
at 55 Bar last Thursday was a lot of fun. Thanks to everyone who
came out. Saw Pete Miser's
show again last week at BB King's Blues Club and was quite impressed.
My man RPM was on keys,
Goldxilla on bass, and Skoota
Warner on drums.
Check out the audio and performances
page for updates!Happy Holidays. FRO
and Van Davis both play at
The Delancey tomorrow night,
FRO's at 8:30, Van Davis begins around 11:30.
Had a fun and productive recording session in Ridgewood, NJ with
Van Davis at Rave Tesar's
studio last night. Rave was great to work with, and I think the
product will be excellent.
Well, it's been over a month since I've updated the site
- probably because it's hard to top the last entry on this page.
And still, no toppage. But I have updated the performances
page for those interested.MagnoliaFest
was great this year. Good bands, old and new friends, great food,
and perfect warm weather. The long wait all day on Saturday for
the Snake Oil performance in the Music Hall at 1AM yielded awesome
rewards for myself and for a full crowd of revelers not ready to
retire from the day of music. It was a lot of fun playing those
old songs, many of which Snake Oil hardly performs anymore. And
thanks to the brilliant savvy of Warpextor Cosmoverse, Oteil
Burbridge (pretty much my favorite bassist in the world) ended
up on stage for our second song of the evening (a fifteen minute
funk jam). I'll write more about that when I come out of shock in
a couple of months. Or when I get a copy of the show in the mail.
:)
Among my favorite performers there this year were Aquarium
Rescue Unit, the Joe Craven
Trio, Acoustic Syndicate
(who just put out a nice new album), and Nikki
Talley. It was really hard to leave on Sunday, just like last
year.
Check out the newly updated performances page! Looking forward
to the trip to Florida this weekend for more festival fun in the
sun. Can't WAIT to see the reunited Aquarium Rescue Unit and play
with my old Snake Oil
buddies.
Both the Van Davis and FRO shows were cool. Thanks to all of the
fantastic people who came. It was great having Michael Caterisano
on drums with Van Davis and Andy Sanesi with FRO.
It's that time of year again, September 29th. The early Fall rain
is here, I'm fully moved (but nowhere near settled in), and Emil's
on his way over, we'll go eat Korean food. Got two gigs on Saturday,
one from 3-6pm at Tompkins
Square Park on the east side, then at 9pm FRO
plays CBGB's Lounge.
Had a great show with Scott Harris and 20
Trap tonight at the Baggot Inn. The new soundman, Jon, has done
us right the last couple of times, and though it's been 3 months,
the Lizard Lounge gig 2 weeks ago was enough to warm us up properly
for this evening's show. Scott's girlfriend, Sara, brought about
15 of her girlfriends, but still I managed to eventually get away
to make it to Vivaldi on Jones St. to catch the last hour of Anthony
Garcia and Alex Lowry's performance. I've performed a few times
with Anthony in his band, Sangre; he's a great songwriter, vocalist,
and guitarist/pianist. I'm bummed that he's moving back to Lubbock,
TX, in November - but at least we're going to end up playing a couple
more times before he leaves. Anyway, he'll be back. ; )The Timefly show at the Newport festival tonight was a success.
We played an hour set at 5pm, followed by Joe Taino's blues quartet
and the Jason Lindner Big Band. We beat the rain by one night, the
Joey Defrancesco performance was rescheduled for next Friday. Thanks
to Zack Page and Goldzilla
for trekking through the Hudson to come to the show, it was nice
to have the support. Hopefully there will be more Timefly to come
in the near future.
The Van Davis show at Tribeca Rock Club was also a hit; thanks to
Abena and Margaret and Wendy and Jon and Rob and Kathy and that
one girl from the Backfence for making it out, and to Zack for lending
the Clarus amplifier I didn't end up needing. The Oz Noy Trio was
excellent, I was glad to finally get to see James Genus play electric
bass on a gig in the city, and it was great to meet him.
No more shows for a week or two - the next ones will be the first
Saturday in October with Van Davis at Tompkins Square Park and then
that night with FRO at CB's Lounge. The break comes at a good time
because I've got some moving to do. Will probably take the apartment
at 25th and 10th ave in Manhattan...Thanks to all who made it to the Van
Davis show at 55 Bar last week! We had a great time and hope
you did too. We have another great show planned for thisTuesday
at Tribeca Rock Club.
The Oz Noy Trio will also be
appearing, featuring James Genus (bass) and Anton
Fig (drums). Check out the Performances
page for details.
This summer has brought the best weather I've experienced in my
four years in NYC.Hopefully the rain
will continue to stay away for the Timefly
performance on Thursday at the Newport Jazz Festival!
Played with Ray Greiche and Patrick Carmichael at the Backfence
on Bleecker St. last night - yet another 4 hour marathon gig. I
had managed to forget about it until getting a call from Ray 5 minutes
before we were supposed to start. As usual, I was checking out an
apartment for rent - this one at 14th and 10th ave. Can't believe
I made it back home to get my bass at 56th and 9th, then all the
way back downtown to the club within 28 minutes! Biking everywhere
has definitely spoiled me...(Can't wait until I find an apartment and can start concentrating
on other responsibilities again.)L.A. was a blast. Great music and fun in the sun all weekend
long. Saw Michael Landau, Jimmy Johnson, and Tos Panos at the Baked
Potato on Saturday.
Got a show with 20 Trap on Wednesday
at the Lizard Lounge, and rehearsal later in the week with Timefly
for the Newport Jazz Festival show on 9/16. More about that soon.
Thanks to all who made it to the Van Davis show at the 55 Bar last
night. We had a great time and hope you did too. The band recorded
in Brooklyn tonight at Bennet Paster's place, we'll be returning
there tomorrow to finish with Ted.
Then it's off to L.A. to hang with Josh Day til Labor Day.
Here's a clip from an extended S.O.M.S. jam...(feat. Jeremy Saunders
on SOPRANO.)
Electric Train
Station
Also one with Spur, Aaron, and Jimmy Dulin for old
time's sake.
And wouldn't wanna forget this
one.
Welcome back. If you have a second, check out the new G-Force
clips on the Audio page.
Stopped by the Cutting Room Studios last night, Cheryl Engelhardt
was working hard on nailing down vocal tracks for her upcoming album,
which my performance will be included on. The name of the LP will
be Shoes Off And Run. Cheryl is a talented songwriter,
pianist, and vocalist - you can learn more at CBEMusic.com.
(The photo to the left was taken last week during the session at
Cutting Room)
Anybody need a roommate? I'm hoping to remain on the West Side below
68th st., and an unfortunate situation has dictated that I leave
my current abode in 3 WEEKS.
My bro and John Spurrier arein town
this weekend, we saw Frissel, Motian, and Lovano at Village Vanguard
on Wednesday, the Lionel Lueke Quartet feat. Jeff "Tain"
Watts and Richard Bona at the Jazz Gallery on Thursday.Had a great rehearsal on Monday with Van Davis in preparation
for the August 31 show at 55 Bar (check out the
Performances page for more info). Ted Baker will be sitting
in for about 4 songs in each set, and we're psyched with the sound
his addition addsI just added an MP3 of our rehearsal to the Audio
page, check it out if you have a moment. You can learn more about
Ted on the Steely Dan website,
he played keyboards on the two most recent Steely albums and both
tours!
Props to Robert Muller for
providing impetus and guidance for the creation of this site. Content
coming soon!
Please feel free to check out the three mp3's on the Audio
page.
